Good New, Bad News, and No News

Nov 10th, 2011

Bacon anyone? It’s been quite a week. So much so that I failed to find a captivating image to accompany my writing, so am relying on this spoof, offered up by my design heroes at Cast Iron Design Company.

The week started with the awesome news that I’ve been selected for the UNC Greensboro’s Falk Visiting Artist Program during the 2012-13 academic year. This really knocked my socks off. Past artists have included people like Judy Pfaff, Amy Cutler, Dike Blair, Dario Robleto. And ME. I seriously can’t believe it, so excuse me while I relish the moment with my mouth open in astonishment.

And, to make it better, did I mention that we were enjoying a weekend in Chicago for our friends’ wedding when I got the news? Sweetness.

Then, as usually happens in life, the minute after this good news was relayed to me my hard-working Mac died an instant death in our Chicago hotel room. Mac felt no pain. But I felt like I was being slowly strangled. After traveling on and off for the better part of two months, I dreaded this question: “Everything is backed up, right?” As it turns out, everything (or almost everything) was backed up, but better yet, Mr. Mac was brought back to life by our MSU campus computer genius. Thankfully that last set of poodle pictures was not lost! I can hear my Facebook followers breathing a collective sigh of relief.

When I started this blog, I made a promise that I would try not to bore my readers with no news. And really, that’s what the rest of my week has, quite thankfully, been. I won’t go on and on, but I’ll just say this: “Artists—They’re Just Like US!” I’ve been doing a month’s worth of laundry, walking my poodles, backing up all the files on my computer (!!!), attending our friends’ lovely wedding…and getting ready to dive full-force into that next project, which is waiting for me in my studio.

Thanks for reading everyone! Stay tuned for updates about upcoming projects along with some shots of my studio…after I clean it.
